AUTUMN (age 12)

The pretty leaves are falling,
Yes, falling all around.
They flutter in all directions,
Then down…down…down.
The mornings are growing very cold,
So cold they make us shiver.
And each morning when we try,
‘Tis hard to crank the flivver.
Some one has been in the garden.
Who was it I pray?
Has Jack Frost been in my garden
And killed since yesterday?
We like to live in the country,
Out in the pure fresh air.
We love to see the pretty trees
And sky, so bright and fair.
The saucy squirrels are gathering nuts
Out in the beautiful wood.
Would you destroy them
If you could?
The little birds have left us.
Where they are, we do not know.
But they’ve left behind
All the cold wind, sleet and snow.
